I know exactly how it feels as a beginner internet marketer. Why? Because not so long ago I was one. I can't say the last 6 months have been a walk in the park - far from it - but retrospect is a wonderful thing, and I can now see there are a number of shortcuts that you can take when starting out as an affiliate marketer.
Here's four things that have taken me from earning nothing to quite a substantial living online and can for you too:
1. How Many Tennis Balls Can You Catch At Once?
If I threw 12 tennis balls at you, how many would you be able to catch? Probably none. But if I just throw one tennis ball, you'd have no problem catching it. Why is this relevant? You should stick with one project at a time until you monetise it. Loads of people jump from project to project spreading themselves far too thinly to really give any niche a proper chance.
In my first few months, I was juggling five different niches and had real trouble making any real money online. I was making a couple of hundred bucks a month, but nothing worth writing home about. It was only when I really knuckled down in one sector did I achieve something really profitable.
2. Market Research Is Absolutely Key
To effectively sell to a certain population, you need to understand them. That means understanding how they think, what problems they have and what kind of solution they are looking for. A great way of doing this is to hang out with your target market in online forums - read some of the threads and interact with them to learn as much as you can.
Remember that even though your target market may think that they act on logic, the harsh reality is that they react predominantly through emotions. That's why great copy writing appeals to emotional responses of the target audience.
3. Build A List
If you're looking to a make a fruitful full time income from affiliate marketing then you need to have security in your business. This means building a long lasting and sustainable customer base with whom you have a relationship. Building a relationship is the quickest way to an ultra responsive list, a list that will rely on what you say and buy on your recommendations. Treat your subscribers with respect and provide them with great information and you, in turn, will reap great dividends.
4. Learn To Write Effectively
Great copy writing is a skill that not many people is born with. However, like any skill, it can be taught. If you try and play Mozart on the piano from the outset then you'll have difficulty, but given a few months to practice you'll have a better chance.
The one key thing to remember with copy writing is this: Every paragraph should be written in such a way that gets your reader to what you want them to do. For instance, the subject line of an email should invoke curiosity in the recipient so that they open the mail.
If you can learn to write effectively and in such a way that inspires action then you'll be an incredibly successful affiliate marketer.
