Beginners Guide to Social Media Marketing

Businesses have embraced social media as a means to expand their customer base and literally take their business global. It also enables businesses to build and maintain a good reputation, advertise in different languages and stay in touch with the needs and wants of the world. Social media outlets such as MySpace, Twitter and Facebook, have revolutionized the way people communicate, businesses conduct business and information is formulated and dispersed.
Social media has also changed and, to a great degree, improved marketing methods. The object of marketing is to get your idea, product or service in front of as many people as possible. Marketing is a teaching tool - it teaches the consumer what the idea, service or product is about and why they need it.
Social media marketing programs are centered on creating content that attracts attention, generates a response and conversation and encourages participants to share with their social networks the information they have found. It might sound complicated, but it really is not. The individual is the content provider and social media is the outlet. It is the yellow pages, classified ads and the flyer on the bulletin board all rolled into one.
One of the best ways to get started with social media marketing is with a blog. What is a blog? A blog is a "web log." Put the two words together and eliminate the "w-e" and there you have it - "blog." Blogs have sky rocketed in popularity and gives anyone with the penchant for writing the opportunity to write one. Those with little or no writing skills or not enough time have the opportunity to create a blog then buy content from writers. Blogging is better than stimulus funding. It actually creates jobs.
Your blog must be organized and updated fairly regularly in order to be taken seriously. Your blog should be focused on your business, idea or service. Post your blog on all your social media pages. The more pages you have means more friends means more eyes looking at your blog. Look up programs that offer the opportunity to post your blog to all your media pages simultaneously. It will be time consuming to post your blog individually.
Your blog should have a secondary focus. Something fun or funny may be the hook to get your blog attention buy not all who find your blog will become fans. They will most likely pass your link onto someone they know who is interested in your own special niche. When that happens, you have others marketing for you.
On your blog, make sure you have pertinent links to your web page or business or at the very least, an email address so folks can find you. Use key words pertinent to what you have to offer. You want your blog and web page to be as high in the search engine rankings as possible. Surfers doing a web search with certain key words are not going to look beyond the first two or three pages of results. To get started with social media marketing remember blog and key words are the key.
