Article Marketing Vs Social Media (Web 2.0) - Traffic Generation Comparison

Article marketing has evolved. Today, you find web 2.0 properties. When you publish content on article directories and web 2.0 sites, you are basically still trying to use content to generate traffic. So what is the difference between the two?
For web 2.0 social sites, there is always a sharing element. All social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. are based on the concept of sharing. For example, when you upload content to such sites, you are sharing content with your friends and other members within the same community. So what has this got to do with article marketing?
Well, some article directories are evolving to become web 2.0 properties as well. They are sharing revenue with their authors. Of course, don't expect to be making thousands of dollars from these sites. The reality is that you need a lot of traffic to be earning decent income (as in few hundred dollars a month).
For this reason, I highly recommend that you focus on sales rather than revenue sharing to earn money on the Internet. You can still publish on these web 2.0 sites if you like, as many of these sites have got high Google page rank and rank very well in the search engines. But instead of depending on the revenue sharing schemes for money, use these sites for traffic generation and SEO purposes. Link to your own sites to improve the rankings. And if the readers click on your links, you get direct traffic. That's even better.
So the way I use web 2.0 sites is different from most marketers. I use them for link building and traffic generation. I don't use them for revenue sharing. That is sticking to the fundamentals of article marketing.
